INCI Olea Europaea (Olive) Fruit Oil
what is it

Olive oil is a natural oil obtained from the pressing of olive fruits. You can find it different qualities and grades depending on the type of press.

Extra virgin and virgin olive oil are the natural extractions, using only mechanical press. Extra virgin is the first cold press, which retains most of its properties, followed by virgin olive oil that is pressed at slightly higher temperature but its still considered to have reasonably quality.

It is rich in antioxidants, vitamins (especially vitamin E), and essential fatty acids, making it highly nourishing for skin and hair.

Traditionally used in mediterranean cultures for centuries, besides being an essential part of the cuisine, it has been valued for its moisturizing, protective, and healing qualities.

Olive oil can be replaced by many different oils like jojoba, almond or avocado oil in most of fomulations, providing equally nourishing and moisturizing effects.

Palm oil is a common substitute for olive oil in soap making, but personally I prefer to not use it due to environmental impact.

additional info

Extra virgin olive oil is more than just a nourishing oil – it’s naturally rich in vitamin E, antioxidants, and unique plant compounds that help protect and soothe the skin.

These components support skin hydration, calm irritation, and may even slow down visible signs of aging.

One special compound, called oleocanthal, gives olive oil some of its soothing and anti-inflammatory effects, which is why it has been valued for both beauty and health for centuries.

story and tradition

Olive oil has deep roots in the Mediterranean region, where the olive tree is often seen as a symbol of  health, prosperity and peace.

In ancient Greece and Rome, it was revered not only as an essential food source but also for its skincare and medicinal uses. Greeks and Romans applied olive oil to their skin for moisturizing, healing, and as part of bathing rituals. It was also used in religious ceremonies, symbolizing purity and the divine.

In Greek mythology, the olive tree was sacred to Athena, the goddess of wisdom and peace, that offered it as a gift to the people, symbolizing peaceful coexistence and prosperity.

During the Roman Empire, the olive branch continued to represent peace. It was carried by messengers as a sign of a desire for a ceasefire or truce between warring parties.
